TUKWILA, Wash. - The Portland Timbers bested defending U.S. Open Cup title-holders Seattle Sounders FC Tuesday night by a score of 3-1 in extra time at the Starfire Sports Complex.
In a wild game that saw the Sounders go down to seven men--three via red cards and one due to injury after running out of subsitutions--Portland advances in the tournament to the Round of 16. They will learn their next opponent in a draw organized by U.S. Soccer on Thursday morning.
